Regenerative 2030

Empowering women in the Maldives by reviving traditional crafts, preserving cultural heritage and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities that strengthen local communities.

Across the Maldives, traditional skills and cultural practices are an important part of island identity, yet changing lifestyles and limited economic opportunities can make it difficult for this knowledge to be passed from one generation to the next. This project supports Maldivian women to strengthen and share traditional craft skills while creating meaningful opportunities to earn an income from their knowledge and creativity.

With support from the World Expeditions Foundation, women will have opportunities to develop their skills, produce locally made crafts and connect their work with livelihood opportunities, including those created through tourism. By supporting locally made products and experiences, the project helps ensure that more of the economic benefits of tourism remain within island communities.

Beyond income generation, the initiative celebrates Maldivian cultural heritage and the important role women play in keeping traditional knowledge alive. By bringing together cultural preservation, women's empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, the project aims to build stronger, more resilient communities while giving travellers a deeper connection to Maldivian culture.
