On the Warrumbungles and Pilliga Supported Cycle Tour you'll explore the region of north-western NSW, one of the more fascinating highlights is witnessing the night sky. As there is no artificial light pollution, on clear nights you are able to see a sky full of stars. This has earned the Warrumbungle National Park the title of Australia's first Dark Sky Park.

 

In the below video you can see what it's like to admire the Milky Way from the iconic Warrumbungle National Park near Coonabarabran. The pristine night sky above the volcanic landscape is like nothing you've ever seen before.

 

 

 

The next video is an incredible timelapse from Filippo Rivetti. It shows Australia's largest optical telescope at Siding Spring Observatory, part of the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics (RSAA) at the Australian National University (ANU). Filippo spent a few nights in the area (and one night at the Observatory) to try and capture the essence of this beautiful area.
