Embarking on a self guided cycling holiday is a great way to experience Australia. Being on two wheels allows you to become more immersed in your surroundings as you can control the pace of your cycling and follow your nose if you see something of interest. Like Kate did on her South Coast holiday, where she literally sniffed out the delicious Berry Donut Van. Plus you can cover a far greater distance than if you were walking.

 

 

The only downside with taking an epic ride is that the further you pedal, the further you leave behind your 'base' - your accommodation with your luggage, car, etc. It's never as fun to backtrack over ground you've already covered, especially if you enjoyed a downhill coast. To get around cycling the reverse path, cyclists will typically organise a shuttle service or taxi to return them to their base. This can be tricky because your shuttle will need to have the capacity to take bikes as well as passengers.

 

 

The good news: on an Australian Cycle Tours trip, you don't need to worry about organising shuttles! On our multi-day self guided trips we include daily bag transfers so your 'base' moves with you. Each morning, simply pack a few essentials for your days' ride into your pannier (bike's saddlebag) and leave the rest of your luggage at your accommodation's reception. We'll collect your luggage and shuttle it to your next accommodation where it will be waiting for you to arrive. Too easy!

 

 

Another added benefit of having a daily baggage transfer on a multi-day ride is that you get to discover a new town every evening. While we do offer centre-based cycling (where you use the same accommodation for the duration of your tour), moving from town to town allows you to better explore the local sights, restaurants, pubs and nightlife. And when you're on a ride in a foodies paradise such as Victoria's High Country, this benefit becomes even more important!
